For a start, beautiful parks, recreation, vibrant neighborhoods, walking trails, and lots of local shops and services. And what better way to enjoy the benefits of our community up close than by walking, bicycling, or even taking the bus or trolley. That’s when you discover that there are things you just can’t see from a car.
Sure, you can help reduce air pollution and traffic congestion by walking, bicycling, and riding transit, but it’s also a great way to make shopping trips and recreational trips more fun, relaxing, and healthy. Sometimes people are unaware of all of the options available to them. That’s where Discover Wilsonville comes in.
Discover Wilsonville is a one-year program, sponsored by South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART) and funded by a grant from Metro. It is an intensive effort to make sure that every Wilsonville resident has all the information they need to use whatever travel options interest them.
If you live in Wilsonville, watch for a postcard this summer that will allow you to order all of the materials you need to bike, walk, take transit, or carpool to get to the place you want to go – all at no cost to you. Our bike-riding summer interns will deliver the materials to your door. There are bike and walking maps, pedometers, safety items such as reflectors and bike lights, and transit and rail schedules to help you plan your trip in town or your commute to neighboring communities. You don’t have to wait until you get the postcard to order your materials; you can order them online right now.
Along with the materials you order, you can also select an additional item as a reward for your efforts. You can choose from a baseball cap, an umbrella, a t-shirt, or a lunch bag. All of these items are also designed to help make your trips more comfortable and convenient.
Discover Wilsonville will be sponsoring free bike rides, guided walks, transit tours, and transportation adventures. Events will be posted online throughout the summer so check back often!
Discover Wilsonville is brought to you by SMART and the City of Wilsonville, with grant funding provided by Metro
